In true Khaled style, he is documenting the entire trip on his social media, just tune into his Snapchat, and you will not miss a beat.  DJ Khaled told us that it had been twelve years since he’s been to Jamaica partly because at one point he had stopped flying. “I’ve been here in twelve years, and I just started flying again two years ago,” the rapper/producer said. One of the first order of business for Khaled, when he touched down on Jamaican soil, is to visit Buju Banton, who was released from federal prison in the United States on December 7th. In the single “Yuh Too Lie,” Elephant Man responds to Beenie Man diss about his house having the same color as his hairstyle. “Yuh say me house favor the color of my hair but me a the owner, Why them fling you out a the apartment up a Mona, Say money stock and pile when that is just a lie, Yo don’t even rich like Donia,” Elephant spits. Of course, Harris has denied the rumors, but that is not enough for Grunggadzilla. During one of his recent performances, Bounty Killer lash out at Dalton Harris while telling the crowd that he is not a good representative for Jamaica on the global stage. “I represent for you because you’re a fellow Jamaican,” Killer told the crowd. “You out in the world should be representing for us as fellow Jamaicans. Jamaicans don’t hold certain morals and values… for that no gratitude.” Bounty Killer ...

Earlier this year, the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community in Trinidad and Tobago came out strongly opposing to Buju Banton’s planned post-prison concertset for April next year on the island. Banton was still in prison at the time, and his management team had already signed the deal for the show to take place. One activist told Urban Islandz that they have serious concerns over bringing in the reggae superstar because of some of his past music. Buju Banton was released from federal prison in the United States last week Friday and is currently in Jamaica spending some quality time with his family. The singer has not spoken about the issue with the gay community in Trinidad, and the promoter insists that the show is still going on. Director of Trinidad’s Coalition Advocating for Inclusion of Sexual Orientatio...

Popcaan Message To Dancehall Artists “Riddims Don’t Win Grammys”

Popcaan Message To Dancehall Artists “Riddims Don’t Win Grammys” Popcaan has a straightforward message to dancehall artists, “Riddims don’t win Grammys.” Popcaan sent out a tweet this week that will resonate among dancehall artists. The unruly boss is celebrating the success of his new album  Forever  which is currently number two on the charts despite being released from July of this year. Bob Marley‘s Legend (Remastered) album is at the top of the chart, and his Legend (Deluxe) is at number three. This proves to you the longevity of Bob Marley’s work, which is still selling well decades after his death. “Still top of the charts,” Popcaan tweeted. “Just a reminder to the dancehall industry riddims don’t win Grammys, projects/body of work do. Let’s keep putting out more projects for 2019 Go buy Forever or stream it. More videos on the way.” Most dancehall artists already know this, but why aren’t more deejays releasing more albums? Since last year, Ishawna and Masicka have been rumored to be dating, and now they’re finally stepping out of the shadows as dancehall’s newest power couple. Urban Islandz first reported last year that solid sources spilled the beans on their relationship. The couple managed to keep their relationship under wraps for the most part, except when some random photos would surface online showing them together. On Tuesday, Ishawna posted a few pics of herself and Masicka on her Instagram while wishing the Genahsyde deejay a happy birthday. “Happy Birthday to a king,” she wrote along with a king, crocodile, and heart emoji. The “Infrared” deejay liked the post but didn’t comment. Masicka is celebrating his 25th birthday today, December 4, 2018. Reggae music to be protected by the UN

Reggae music to be protected by the UN Reggae has been added to a list of international cultural treasures which the United Nations has deemed worthy of protecting and promoting. The music, which grew out of Jamaica in the 1960s thanks to artists like Toots and the Maytals, Peter Tosh and Bob Marley, was added to the collection due to its "intangible cultural heritage". Reggae is "cerebral, socio-political, sensual and spiritual," said Unesco. It has "penetrated all corners of the world," added a Jamaican spokesperson. Reggae followed on from the ska and rocksteady genres - other early pioneers included Lee Scratch Perry and Prince Buster. Millie Small's 1964 ska cover of My Boy Lollipop also helped introduce reggae's laidback groove to the world. Reggae became popular in the United States but particularly flourished in the UK, which had become home to many Jamaican immigrants since the end of World War Two. The British reggae ...
