Vybz Kartel Recording Music In Prison and Being Investigated

Vybz Kartel Breaks Silence On Recording Music In Prison “It’s Not True”
Vybz Kartel is adamant that he is not recording music in prison despite coming under increased pressure from authority.
Jamaican law enforcement moved in and conducted a search of the dancehall deejay’s cell block where contraband was found. He was subsequently relocated to another prison and placed in confinement pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.
Speaking with Rolling Stone through his attorney, Tom Tavares-Finson, Vybz Kartel made it clear that he has not been recording in prison and all his recent singles are as a result of his hard work in the years before his arrest.
“I’ve always been a prolific songwriter, and I record at breakneck speed as well, so I have a lot of surplus material to choose from,” the former Portmore Empire head said. “There is a recording studio at another correctional facility [in Jamaica] but none here … cellphones, laptops, or any Internet-capable instrument are prohibited items.”
A rep for the incarcerated dancehall star backed up his story telling us that all his new music are as a result of a massive catalog of previously recorded unreleased material. “We have hundreds and possibly thousands of unreleased material for Vybz Kartel, so for years to come we will still be putting out new music,”.

Vybz Kartel Being Investigated For Recording Music In Prison

The slew of new music coming from Vybz Kartel could come to a complete halt because Urban Islandz learned that authorities have moved in to investigate the dancehall deejay’s over some recent reports that he has been recording music in prison.
A highly placed source inside the police department told us that they have been receiving phone calls asking if the “Round Corna” deejay is recording music behind bars or if he is in possession of a cellphone given his recent social media activities.
“We received numerous calls so it’s now at a point where there is no choice but to investigate these claims of him recording music in prison, which is illegal,” sources told us. “There are also some claims that he is in possession of a phone that he use to either record music or engaged in social media activities. I can’t confirmed these claims but we are actively investigating it.”
Sources inside the Gaza camp told us that Vybz Kartel is not recording music in prison and his social media activities are all done by his label’s management at Short Boss Musik.
There are also reports claiming that Vybz Kartel will be moved from the Horizon Center to another prison that is much more strict, but our sources couldn’t confirmed those claims.

This development comes just days after former T.O.K. singer Flexx did an interview with Anthony Miller where he called out the system and Vybz Kartel for recording music behind bars and getting extensive airplay.

“I don’t understand how a man should be in prison and have so much songs a play and people out there hustling everyday in the studio, writing good songs, and them can’t get them songs played,” Flexx said.
Of course Vybz Kartel fans took him apart on social media, but the dancehall singjay says he could care less.

Vybz Kartel Contraband Found In Cell Deejay Transferred To GP Confinement

Vybz Kartel found himself in some more legal troubles that could potentially affect his upcoming appeal case.
Sources inside law enformcement confirmed with Urban Islandz that authorities launched an investigation into reports that he has been recording music in prison and found contraband inside of his cell. The nature of the banned items found in Vybz Kartel cell are not yet known, but sources confirmed with us that he was immediately transfer to a maximum security section of the Tower Street prison where he is placed in solitary confinement.
“Some form of contraband was found inside of the cell that Palmer was being held,” reliable sources told us. “I can’t state the exact nature of what these contraband are but electronic devices are believed to be among them.”
Shawn Storm cell was also searched during the operation, but so far we’ve learned that only Kartel was transferred to a different prison.
Vybz Kartel’s lead attorney, Tom Tavares Finson, also confirmed that the artist was transferred late Tuesday afternoon but couldn’t give an exact reason for the abrupt transfer.
The raid on Vybz Kartel cell came just days after T.O.K. singer Flexx complained in an interview with Anthony Miller that Vybz Kartel is getting more airplay than other artists who are free and working hard. Not surprisingly, fans of the Gaza deejay have been blaming Flexx for the latest move by authority that ended with Vybz Kartel being placed in confinement.

As to whether or not we will still get new music from Vybz Kartel, one of his representatives inside the Gaza camp told us that there is a huge catalog of previously recorded unreleased music, so music will still be coming.
During his sentencing hearing in 2014, Vybz Kartel was given the option to record music in prison but on the condition that the proceeds from his recordings will go towards Clive “Lizard” Williams’ family. The dancehall deejay declined the offer and opted not to record music in prison.

Vybz Kartel Thinks Flexx Is “Badmind” But Not Blaming Him For Transfer

Vybz Kartel sudden prison transfer angered some of his fans but seems some warders at the Tower Street prison are more than welcoming of him.
The circumstances surrounding his transfer last week Tuesday are still sketchy, but multiple sources confirmed with Urban Islandz that it’s as a result of allegations that he is recording music in prison. He was being held at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre since his arrest in 2011 and throughout his trial, but as of last week his new his new home will be at the Tower Street Adult Correctional Facility, aka GP.
One warder at GP, Simon Willard, more than likely not his real name, told the Star that most of the staffs at GP are upbeat about Vybz Kartel’s transfer to that prison.
“The presence of him (Kartel) being here was felt from the first day,” Willard said. “The entire prison, warders and inmates a talk up bout him. We nuh know the real reason he was placed there, but a whole heap a speculation.”
Willard also noted that he is in support of Vybz Kartel recording music in prison. As of now the dancehall deejay is not permitted to record music in prison as part of his life sentence. But that could change if a judge grant him permission.
There is a full studio at the Tower Street prison that would serve Vybz Kartel very well.
